Mattie Overmyer is the founder and Creative Director of Studio Mattie O. Raised by her two mothers, she was taught early to observe closely, work with intention, and value craft in everyday life, principles that continue to shape her approach to design.

A summa cum laude graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design in Interior Design and Architecture, she began her career in Savannah before moving to New York City, where she worked across hospitality, residential, and large scale commercial interiors. Named to Interior Design Magazine’s 30 Under 30, she went on to refine her practice within award winning hospitality and commercial studios in New York, contributing to projects for Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Westin Hotels & Resorts, and Google. Her work centered on concept development, FF&E, and material storytelling, establishing a foundation that continues to shape her approach today.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, she has built a global perspective through time spent in New York City, Paris, Provence, Portland, and Hong Kong. Each place informs her approach to material, tone, and atmosphere, grounding her work in context and cultural sensitivity.

Her practice translates hospitality thinking into residential and boutique environments, shaped by research, narrative, and an interest in the full lifecycle of materials and spaces.

She is often with her Bernedoodle Gryphon, who can be found under her desk or riding in the passenger seat.

MATTIE’S MUSES

The studio’s visual language is shaped by an ongoing archive of references, from architectural details and historical interiors to textile studies, landscape, art, and everyday observation. This living collection of influences spans personal connections and early discoveries, from college roommate Shiloh Smith’s paintings to Toronto based fashion designer Max Chercover’s work, alongside New York designer Hannah Biggleu’s lighting and the Spanish wallcoverings by Tulia Carpa. Together, these references inform each project, guiding materiality, atmosphere, and composition through layered and contextual thinking. These collections and moments of connection form a larger visual identity for Mattie, continually shaping how she sees, interprets, and builds environments.

“My path to design began with a fascination for human behavior. I was drawn to what makes people feel connected, what stays with us, and what makes something feel deeply personal. Over time, I realized the spaces we inhabit shape us just as profoundly. Every project begins with people. I design with empathy, creating interiors that feel personal, intentional, and beautifully lived in.”
