MEET MATTIE

Mattie is the founder of Studio Mattie O, a multidisciplinary design studio known for creating bold, functional, and immersive interiors that leave a lasting impression. She approaches design as an experience, one that shapes how people move, connect, and feel within a space.

A graduate of SCAD, Mattie draws inspiration from time spent living in Hong Kong, the South of France, Paris, and New York City. Her work has been featured on the cover of Interior Design magazine and recognized with honors including the 30 Under 30 National Class and the National Exceptional Talent Award. Her approach is human centered, playful, and deeply considered: creating spaces that feel alive, distinctive, and unforgettable.

Specializing in residential and hospitality design, her work spans FF&E, material sourcing, concept development, and brand storytelling. Blending British maximalism, Southern charm, city sophistication, and French Rococo influences, each project is guided by research and intention, with every detail contributing to a layered, expressive, and personal narrative.

I first found myself drawn to psychology, trying to understand the quiet ways people think, feel, and connect. I was interested in what draws someone in, what lingers, what makes something feel personal. Over time, that curiosity shifted toward the spaces we move through, the ones that hold our daily lives and shape us in ways we often do not notice.

We spend so much of our time indoors, and I began to see interiors as something more intimate than anything else I had studied. A space can soften you, energize you, ground you. It can hold memory, mood, and movement all at once. That kind of presence felt meaningful to me.

I design with empathy as my starting point. I want to understand how someone lives, what brings them comfort, and what makes them feel at ease.
